Books
Currently reading The Dark Forest by Liu Cixin. 2nd book in teh Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy.
So far this series has presented a pretty bleak view of humanity and the philosophy of survival -a certain kind of might makes right attitude I see expressed by the new technocrats of silicon valley, but that is also, apparently, been kicking around a certain cadre in Chinese political life. Maybe a similar sort… I dunno the engineering class, maybe? Even writing this feels a bit weird becaue maybe he point of the series will turn out to be something completely different but right now it feels liek a justification for being a shitbag.
There are a few wtf scenes in the books where you wonder if the author has ever met a human. And where i have 0 context culturaly I don;t know if this is indicative of modern chinese culture or if this is the work of what we would call an incel. And that sounds too harsh -there are of course some huge ideas, and some moments i like. I’ve read this far and I suspect i’ll finish the series. There are these really childish passages and tropes but that might, again, be this cultural thing that I have no knowledge of so it feels weird. There are moments where parts feel as if they were written like a parable or a kids story meantto impart important lessons.
I just shit all over this series and if I read what I wrote i wouldn;t want to read the books. But do. They are worth reading.
